Steroid Therapy in Childhood Asthma?

Steroid therapy, once looked upon by many as a panacea for most allergic dis eases, is the basis for much recent pro fessional controversy. This group of Commentaries reflects the present on going re-evaluation of our knowledge concerning steroids in childhood asthma.

The first Commentary by Dr. Fontana —unsolicited—expresses extreme con servatism in the use of corticosteroids for asthma. With Dr. Fontana's permis sion, we asked two of our Editorial Con sultants to comment on his views. The second and third Commentaries by Drs. Lecks and McGeorge portray a less rigid approach, though with views which can hardly be termed liberal.
