The Influence of Protein-Calorie Malnutrition on the Pattern of Pre-School Childhood DiseasesObservations in Lagos, NigeriaFrom the Massey Street Children's Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria Lagos, the Capital Territory of Nigeria, has an estimated 300,000 children under 15 years of age. With a total of only 140 hos pital beds available in two Pediatric Centers, the in-patient turnover is tremendous, and the size of the out-patient load unbelievable. This account of pediatric observations in Nigeria, with its new and somewhat un orthodox conclusions, has great pertinence to Western Hemisphere problems of the re lationships between poverty and childhood diseases.
