Twenty healthy newborn infants were given BCG and smallpox vaccination during the first 24 hours of life. The serum total bilirubin levels on days 1, 3 and 5 were compared with those of 20 matched control infants. No signifi cant differences were found in the mean serum bilirubin levels. Evidently, early BCG and small pox immunization do not adversely influence the serum bilirubin levels in newborn infants.
