Epidemiologic Significance of the Sporadic Case of TuberculosisMedical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wis. 53226, Department of Pediatrics, University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City. Ia. 52240
Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wis. 53226 In a family epidemic of tuberculosis, 22 members were infected; four of these developed active disease. With the greater proportion of the population, par ticularly children and young adults, tuberculin negative and thus at risk when exposed, such small outbreaks are an ever-present threat. Pediatricians play a vital role in tuberculosis case finding by continued skin testing.
