C., to deal with the plight of the orphan child. Out of past conferences have come the stimuli for the Children's Bureau, child labor laws and other important developments.Traditionally, these Conferences have dealt with the questions of children and youth as one unit. But the 1970 or seventh conference was divided into two sections. The Conference on Children was held in Washington, D. C., December 13-18, 1970. Twenty-six individual Forums discussed a wide range of partinent matters, such as Expres sions of Identity ; Creativity and the Learning Process ; Keeping Children Healthy ; Does the Environment Influence a Child ; Meeting the Needs of the Seventies in Child Service Institu tions. The speakers, members and delegates, about 4,000 in all, came from all groups who deal with children-parents, educators, health professionals, legal representatives, social scientists and young people. Numerous controversies and questions arose dur ing and after the Conference. The comments which follow were gathered and organized by Rob ert Mendelsohn, M.D., a member of our Editorial Board.
